Mosquito bite eyelid: Mosquito bites can cause a localized allergic response where you get a very big "bite" area.  Given that this is on your eye lid, I would probably avoid any creams but you might benefit from an antihistamine pill to reduce the allergic response. You might want to try a cool pack ago- 10 min on/10 min off. Try to sleep at an incline too until swelling goes down- here gravity is your friend.

See an eye doctor or: PCP. You have a preseptal upper kid cellulitis developing that requires an antibiotic coverage orally and topically. Don't delay! The bite is causing the lid to swell. Cold compress may not help that much. Warm compressing may be better for 10 mins. four times a day. This can turn into orbital swelling. So don't sit on it, or you'll need IV ABx in the hospital. Prevention is key!

Swollen eye: Best starting with cool compresses.  If lasting longer that a day, becomes painful, spreads, affects vision you need examination and possibly treatment for infection.

my 4 year old takes zyrtec 1 tsp and singulair 4mg every night. she got a couple mosquito bites yesterday and they are swollen. can she have a dose of benadryl also tonight? her left eye has also been watering for several days even with both allergy meds.

Single dose: it is in the same class but a single dose of Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is ok tonight . For the eyes you may try over the counter Zaditor eye drops .

Compress: Mosquito bites on the eyelid do not last very long. A cool compress and a steroid ointment will help.

Not long: Mosquito bites might cause more swelling in the eyelids than in other areas because of the thinness of the skin and the relative looseness of the skin. Thus, more fluid can accumulate. Using ice can reduce swelling. Antihistamines and anti-inflammatory medication orally can help, as well as steroid ointments. However, most otc steroid ointment are not specifically for ocular use. Avoid creams.

Local care: Oral Benedryl is appropriate to give to a 3 year old with an insect bite.  Washing the area with soap and water and applying antibiotic ointment twice daily is usually advised.  Since sensitive tissues of the face can become quickly infected, close monitoring is necessary.  Redness, pain, warmth, and swelling are always concerning symptoms.

Infection: Infections usually are tender/painful to touch, red, swollen with migration of redness. A swollen lymph node on that side or a fever are also signs.

Cold ice packs decrease swelling if just an allergic reaction.

Not likely: The infection is not likely to leave permanent discoloration.

Define "suitable": Vibramycin (doxycycline) and garamycin (gentamicin) gel are used to treat topical skin / soft tissue infections. Given your age, it may even be overkill but that depends on the extent of the infection and underlying conditions (are you diabetic? any other medical problems?). While these antibiotics wd not b my 1st choice, &amp; while other Abx combinations could b more potent, this combination is not ineffective.
