Police Report 1st: There is no time limit for reporting sexual abuse. Police will take a detailed written statement. Sexual assault is a crime against the state, thus the police will determine if there is enough evidence to press charges. You become a witness to the crime. It can sometimes take years before charges are laid & the case goes to court. Criminal charges must be proven "beyond reasonable doubt.".

It is indeed a common reason for someone to enter therapy. Painful memories can easily be repressed. There's no problem with that as long as they do not affect your mood, behavior, or relationships in adulthood. If they do, then it would be advisable for you to enter therapy to explore the issue further.If you wish to remember what happened, then more of an uncovering psychoanalytictherapy with hypnotic components may be advisable. If you do not wish to remember then that is entirely a decision between you and your therapist and will have a lot to do with both your and your therapists perceptions of your over all psychological strength.
