Possible: Zyprexa can cause extrapyramidal side effects including akathisia, it is possible. Check with the prescribing physician to see if (s)he wants to try another medication.

"Smacks": Further investigation is warranted.  Both bruxism (grinding) and lip smacking may be signs of malocclusion, partial airway obstruction, parafunctional habit, stress, and/or dentofacial imbalance. To start you should see your 12 year old's pediatrician to evaluate tonsils/adenoids, and at the same time an orthodontist to evaluate dental/skeletal balance. Both will evaluate airway.

Probably not: Teeth gringing at night is not a conscious  event therefore it is almost impossible to stop somthing you dod nto konw you are doing.
If you grind and are causing damge to your teeth or jaw it is best to wear a guard. Even the guard does not stp the grinding but only prevents damage to the teeth or jaw muscles.

Nature will heal it: There's nothing to do. Your body will heal it quickly. Avoid spicy, hot and acidic foods meanwhile.  If it's a chronic problem have your dentist take a look at your teeth for any sharp areas that might need rounding off and ask if he\she thinks wearing a night guard would be a good idea for you.

Orthopedic Dentist: The cause of grinding is rarely correctly treated.  Most dentist make a bite appliance for you to wear to keep from grinding away the teeth.  This is only treating the symptom and not the cause.   The usual cause is the roof of your mouth (palate) is too narrow in comparison to the lower jaw.  The muscles not finding their home position keep searching = bruxism results.

Wow, : Wow, that really depends. Are you a grinder or a clencher? Is it made of hard or soft material?
In general the hard material lasts much longer than the soft and the clenchers nightgaurd lasts much longer than the grinders.
With proper care a hard nightgaurd should last many years.

Btw...it's BRUXISM..: The mouth guard doesn't stop bruxism but only eliminates the harmful effects (tooth wear)...Relieving the cause (most often stress) is the answer.

ive had a dull ache approx below my cheekbone, around molars, right side only for 2 weeks. hits in afternoon. im guessing teeth grinding most likely? mouth guard from drug store good place to start?

Reasonable yes: If the pain is not severe, no fever, not interfering with eating, then trying a mouth guard from drug store is definitely reasonable.  Otherwise may need to try to see a dentist although it is difficult to get in right now with COVID 19
