Maternal low  folate (folic acid) levels at conception, rubella, "flu", obesity, advanced age &amp; alcohol/drug use from 3 wks.post-conception-term are some epigenetic factors that alter function, but not structure or sequence, of fetal genes &amp; increase risk of ASD.

Not a cure: Biobita is a combination of probiotics and vitamins. While it can help the GI tract, there is no definitive evidence that it will help autism. The claims are testimonials without research back up other than describing research that was not autism specific. With that said if your child has problems with pain, chronic constipation or diarrhea, making him irritable, Biobita may help that and his mood

No: Being bilingual ia usually a strength.  Children can learn two languages at the same time without problems.  Though there is nothing protective about bewing bilingual regarding the risk or development of autism.

Same as for any : Child, a well-balanced diet with appropriate calories. Studies now show what we've known clinically for many years - a higher rate of obesity in kids with ASD vs. Kids without ASD because they often self-limit their diets to "whites" ; hate " greens." ot ; speech/language therapists treat feeding problems. Unless celiac disease, food allergies/ intolerance are documented, no special diet is needed.

Better screens: One of the reasons is for sure the increasing awareness of it (thanks to the media mainly) and improvement of the diagnostic screenings in schools, hospitals etc. So, at least in part, is about finding it more effectively which gives us the impression that it became more prevalent.

No known cause: There is currently no known cause.  A diagnosis is usually made after a psychiatrist or physician obtains a complete history and physical and bases the diagnosis on specific criteria.  Often a test called the ados can provide further information in making the diagnosis.

Increased : It is hard to say exactly  but that is an important discussion.  If either of you have any information regarding any genetic susceptibilities that have been identified in yourselves that should be considered and if not i would consider having some testing done.  The other important issue is maternal age as risk will increase with age.  Take 3 mg folate (folic acid) daily for  3 months  prior to conception.
