Yes : Yes bleaching trays are safe.  There is no adverse effects of bleaching as long as you dont overdo it.  The tooth enamel does weaken slightly while bleaching- thats why bleach supplied by the dentist contains Fluoride and you are supposed to brush your teeth with toothpaste before and after bleaching.

No: Only enamel will bleach. Porcelain will not change color which is one of the reasons it is used.

Not really: Could cause a little GI upset, but in general bleach is well tolerated.  Usually the taste will limit any significant ingestion.

No: Never.
Osha requires you use mask and gloves when you use it in the workplace. We never take such precautions at home.
Chlorine inhalation poses a serious danger to kids and adults as well.  You can also absorb it through your skin.

Bad idea: That sounds like a bad idea since chlorine in bleach can really irritate your skin and can be toxic in high concentrations.

Corrosive: Bleach ingestion irritates and corrodes mucus membranes. This leads to inflammation and pain. It is a medical emergency.

Go to ER: Bleach can be very caustic to the human body, and damage it.  Your friend needs to go to the er to be seen.  If you believe this may have been a suicide attempt, the doctors need to know so that all needed help is provided.

Yes: Wear gloves and eye protection. Keep the area well ventilated. Stop for a while if you feel ill.

As a mouthpiece only: If you need a mouthguard for sports, etc., a bleaching tray is absolutely a no no. A grinding/ clenching mouthpiece that is a bit thicker and softer than a bleaching tray would be recommended.  Also, if you have tmj/tmd, do not wear both upper and lower mouthpieces at same time- too thick as one unit.

Bleach ingestion: can cause throat and abdominal pain, burning/ heat in mouth &amp; abdomen, swelling of throat, severe cramps,vomiting, blood in feces, &amp; it can lead to death.
