would a mitral valve repair from severe regurgitation and mitral valve prolapse be a form of valvular heart disease?
or once repaired is it classed as a normal  valve?i am unsure 
like my cardiologist as he remarked outside his experience to answer!

Heart valve.: In this context, before your operation you would be categorized as having valvular heart disease. That being said, once the valve is replaced, either with a metallic or poor seen valve, you would not be considered as having a normal valve. You would have a replaced valve. You will never again have a normal valve. Even with the new surgeries (TAVR) the valve is still abnormal.

Yes: While the technical answer is yes, it's more complicated: mvp encompasses a broad range of severity from trivial/normal variant to very severe. Commonly there is some degree of regurgitation, often mild. The rare, severe forms of mvp can suddenly rupture a chordae (a supporting structure of the valve) and suddenly develop severe regurgitation with symptoms. This can happen anytime.

Not necessarily: Mitral valve prolapse may progress to regurge but most patients do not progress to the point of needing surgery. It is important to maintain follow up, however. Also you will need antibiotics before procedures and dental visits to reduce the risk of valve infections.

Relax: Mitral regurgitation is common in mvp. Most patients are asymptomatic. No specific therapy is required for mild mr. Normal lifestyle and regular exercise should be encouraged. You should have a normal lifespan.

Absolutely: You should be followed by a cardiologist with a yearly physical exam and based on the severity of the mitral regurgitation with a periodic echocardiogram.
