No: Hi. No, there is no mechanism we know of that would make acylated insulin make you miss a period. I suggest you do a pregnancy test.

Hard to tell: If a woman ovulates, and has no other gynecologic or fertility problems, then she "can" get pregnant. But, it can be hard to tell if a woman is pregnant because some of the symptoms seen in early pregnancy can also happen in non-pregnant women. A urine pregnancy test gives a reliable result if done correctly. One can test about 3 weeks after sex (3 weeks after when conception might have occurred).

"Miracle" Metformin: Metformin has been a "miracle" Rx for PCOS since its inception as it has reduced insulin secretions and reduced multiple ovarian cystic formation facilitating ovulation. However, as good as the drug is, periods can still be irregular and be missed on occasion.

Missing pills: Missing those three pills is the likely cause of why your period is not irregular. Continue taking the pills regularly and eventually your cycle should return back to normal.

Ginette 35: Your low dose bcp is effective unless you miss taking an active pill after the placebo week.  Your symptoms might mean pregnancy, so get a serum HCG test to make sure you are not. In general, take the low dose pills the same time each evening, and start a new pack on day five of the placebo pills (not day eight). This will insure you do not ovulate.

Possible causes: Reasons for missed/late periods: low body weight, obesity, marked  weight ^ or v, over-exercise, endurance athletics, breast-feeding, ^ stress, illness, eating disorders (bulimia or anorexia), anovulatory cycle (no egg released), travel, hormone irregularities, drug use, meds (i.e., birth control) or medical problems (polycystic ovary syndrome or asherman’s syndrome). #1 reason is pregnancy.

Hormonal, anatomic: Secondary amenorrhea refers to absence of menstruation, after previous onset at normal age. Anatomic exam and scans (ultrasound or ct) can assess for obstructive processes. Hormonal testing can  assess for thyroid dysfunction, pituitary dysfunction, excessive prolactin, and excessive androgens (either from ovary or adrenal) among others. These hormone problems interfere with regular menstruation.

Pregnancy is the common cause of a missed period, if sexually active.
