is it possible to ovulate but after that miss your period? there was no pregnancy risk so it's not because of pregnancy.

Probably not: When you ovulate, your period should come on 14 days later if you're not pregnant. If you missed a period and aren't pregnant, either you didn't ovulate or there was a delay.

ob/gyn question here. my cycle is about 40 days long and i hardly miss my periods. my last period came on the 13th of august and now im about 17 days late for my period. i havent had sex so no pregnancy scare. pls what do you think is wrong?worried?

: There are many reasons for a skipped period, pregnancy being only one of them. Some other etiologies include having a cycle where ovulation didn’t occur, weight fluctuation (either gain or loss), change in your exercise level, etc. If you still don’t get your period by the time of your next cycle, call your doctor. There are ways to regulate your cycle so, if you remain concerned, call your doctor

A # of reasons: Reasons for missed/late periods: low body weight, obesity, marked  weight ^ or v, over-exercise, endurance athletics, breast-feeding, ^ stress, illness, eating disorders (bulimia or anorexia), anovulatory cycle (no egg released), travel, hormone irregularities, drug use, meds (i.e., birth control) or medical problems (polycystic ovary syndrome or asherman’s syndrome). #1 reason is pregnancy.

Yes: It is more likely that you are having a period, but 20% of women will have a bleeding episode in the first trimester of pregnancy.
Check a pregnancy test if concerned.

Gold standard: A positive pregnancy test is the 'gold standard" for making that determination. Otherwise, everything else are just suggestive of pregnancy. Periods can be delayed for reasons other than pregnancy, but your GYN MD will want to know if the pregnancy test is positive or not.

Pregnancy?: Occasionally two eggs are close in maturity and stimulation of the ovary to effect ovulation will cause both to be available for fertilization.  This process raises the hormone levels significantly and can produce symptoms similar to early pregnancy. If you miss a period, obtain a serum HCG test from your healthcare provider to be certain.

Late period: May be too early for the  home  preg test to be positive, needs to be about  1 week after your period  should have occurred. May consider blood HCG, could also be variation , stress, infection, thyroid . Try blood  HCG or repeat in1 week , consider sonogram if  persists negative  f/u with doc /urgent care
