Yes, short term: Solodyn, or minocycline, is an antibiotic, and in general, antibiotics are compatible with breastfeeding. With this antibiotic, however,  only short-term use of Minocycline is recommended while breastfeeding. Milk levels are low and absorption by the infant is inhibited by the calcium in breastmilk.  Long term use may (may) damage the baby's teeth. Black discoloration of breastmilk may happen.

I won't worry: Unless u have any unusual or severe symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea etc. Most expired meds are safe to take although the potency is diminished. Take care!

Many: The most significant are teeth damage in children; in all ages: liver inflammation, blood cell problems, serious allergic reaction, kidney failure, psuedotumor cerebri (a neurologic disorder). The most common are dizziness, vaginitis and photosensitivity reaction.   This being said, tetracyclines are in general very safe and effective drugs.  Please discuss your concerns with your doctor.

Depends: Minocin (minocycline) is an antibiotic used for treatment of susceptible organisms and comes as an injection or as an oral drug (capsule, tablet or suspension).   The injectable form cannot be taken orally.  The problem with some capsules and tablets is that they are modified release, meaning that they must be taken whole.  If you cannot tolerate pills, there is a liquid form, but this must be ordered that way.

No : That is not  the correct treatment for bv. It is treated with Metronidazole or clindamycin.

Accepted Answer

Yes: It's a good choice, especially for a few months of systemic therapy. Don't use it alone; topical benzoyl peroxide 5% on the affected areas 2x/day will prevent resistance and probably give you a good result. If you need something stronger, it's available.

is solodyn (minocycline) safe with accutane?

Accepted Answer

Not Recommended : Both medications can cause pseudotumor cerebri, and when taken together the risk of this is much higher.  It is reversible, but i still never prescribe both Accutane and Minocycline (solodyn is a version of minocycline) together.  If an antibiotic is needed while on accutane, I use a different antibiotic that is not associated with pseudotumor.
