Depends: I doubt that any one has actually compiled this number.  First what are pills:  medication only, supplements. Over the counter medication?  And of course this will be influenced by the sex, and the geographic location and the presence of underlying disease..  There probably is no studied answer but in first world countries it must be in the 10's of thousands.

Advise to Wives: It is odd here to have these types of questions.  Wives are sometimes looked upon by their husbands as 'interfering' or 'nagging'. Both of these situations would lead to an increase in the lack of libido.  

If your husband is willing to read the advise you will get here i would tell him that he can get help and it is often easily available. He needs a full medical evaluation at the family clinic.

Best bet: Is to focus on a regimen that you can most consistent complete.  As with any form of exercise, the best form is the one that you are able to regularly incorporate into your weekly routine.  Exercise has a cumulative effect up to a limit, such that you get benefits from either regimen.  You don't have to get all your daily physical activity all in "one fell swoop!"
