Heart valve: There is no such thing enlarged heart valve. If you are taking about thickened heart valve with out stenosis then he should be ok. If it is myxomatous proliferation then you should see a cardiologist.

Nothing: Very mild leakage of a heart valve by echocahrdiogram is very common and can be seen normally. We commonly see such leakage in a high percentage of normal people involving for instatnce the tricuspid valve. So it is likely that nothing needs to be done.

No: Everyone (close to 100% of human beings) have leakage of their tricuspid valve and it's even higher (probably 100%) of people with chf. Unless it's very severe, it should never be repaired as it isn't the cause of the CHF and the CHF won't get better by repairing it.

Depends: This really depends on the circumstances. Important factors to consider are what valve is involved, how abnormal is it currently, how enlarged the heart is, and how the heart is functioning now. Even knowing all this though it is really challenging to give an accurate prognosis because every patient is so different. I hope this helps.

Possibly: If your partner has a left bundle branch block, he may be a candidate for a bi-ventricular resynchronization icd. Ask to be referred to an electrophysiologist. Even if he doesn't have a lbbb, he may be candidate for a single chamber icd.

Echo: If you're seeing your PCP, the doctor should be able to decide if you need an echocardiogram.

It depends.: It depends upon the basis for the comment.  If the comment was based upon a review of an echocardiographic assessment of ones heart, then it implies a near-normal valve.  On the other hand, if it's based upon the reporting of the intensity of a heart murmur heard with a stethoscope, then the accuracy is dependent upon the skill of the person using the instrument.

Yes: Many people can have mild leaks (regurgitation) of one or more of their heart valves (aortic, mitral, tricuspid and pulmonic).  Often mild to moderate regurgitation is tolerated quite well and can be followed.  Moderate to severe regurgitation can sometimes be followed closely if the patient has no symptoms and the heart is otherwise ok, but severe leaks can lead to serious problems.
