Eczema: You have sensitive skin. Perhaps just washing your hands can cause the red blotches or something you've worked with could also be the cause. Eczema most probably cause your skin to get irritated ao quickly.

This prescription medication cream is commonly used for most types of eczema that affect the hands. What it does is essentially speed up the process of healing and treat the dryness and cracking that may occur during a flare-up. Also moisturizers like cerave cream which is otc is beneficial.

Irritant/contact: Most of hand eczema are from exposure to excessive amount of irritant (solvent, soap etc) or too much water. Around 25% is from contact allergy to an allergen (chemicals, raw food etc).  The best approach is avoidance of these  triggers. Topical cortisone may help but is not a long term solution. See allergist/dermatologist.

The risk is low, if the person who has the virus, does not have any active blisters or sores, but transmission is still possible.  Being aware of any sores and keeping your hands and skin washed and cleaned regularly, will help to prevent transmission of any infections, including herpes.
