Influenza: According to mayo clinic flu sxs may include “fever over 100f (38c), aching muscles, especially in your back, arms and legs, chills ; sweats, headache, dry cough, fatigue and weakness, nasal congestion.” children may experience nausea, vomiting or abdominal pain when they have influenza.

: Steam or vapor inhalation will loosen the phlegm and make it easier to expectorate. You may try over the counter expectorants as well. Keep hydrated by drinking enough water so that your urine is mostly colorless.

Prob viral: If no fever, or sore throat, then you can "wait it out".
But if you do develop a sore throat, fever, or worsening, then you should see your DR&gt;

Mgt: It can cause these symptoms. If your cough worsens, please see your PCP.  Flu may be associated with the development of pneumonia, but most cases resolve without treatment or any complications.

Pulmonologist: You need to see a pulmonary disease specialist.  How long has it been since you had the  flu? It may just take more time. If you smoke (hopefully not), of course you must stop. You may have allergies that have been unmasked.  You may have an anatomic obstruction like a bronchial polyp. Many possibilities.

ive been having chest pain that sometimes feels like a sore muscle and sometimes it feels like mild stabbing pain and spreads to my shoulder and arms. i have a sore throat too and cough and nasal congestion for almost two weeks now, can it be the flu?

Doctor can examine: Throat pain in a teen can be from a strep throat (antibiotics needed), a cold or flu (antibiotics usually not used), or from some other cause such as allergies or irritants. Usually, a person sees the doctor if the sore throat is bothersome, recurrent, or doesn't go away quickly (mainly to look for strep). Occasional sharp chest pains may or may not be related to the throat, so a Dr. should check.

Recurrent infections: Children will experience more colds and infections especially if they attend daycare, exposed to cigarette smoke or were forn very premature.  Chronic or recurrent congestion, cough may indicate allergies and/or asthma.  Less common is an immune system problem predisposing children to recurrent, severe or unusual infections.  An allergist can assist in sorting these out.
