? concern: Do you at age 38, have cerebral atrophy?  Would get this checked out ASAP.   Seen with aging, Alzheimer's disease, multiple sclerosis, repetitive brain injury, and variety of other problems.   If this is YOU, see a neurologist, as you need help!!

Nothing to worry: Cerebral atrophy is a universal aging process that everyone gets. Mild cerebral atrophy that your aunt has  is probably nothing more than normal aging. As for the small lesion in the right frontal scalp region, I must advise that you have her primary care physician look at this. If the lesion was in the brain, then a nonspecific small lesions in the brain are also very common with aging.

my father is 69 and is diagnosed with mild cerebellum and cerebral atrophy. please suggest the precautions and medications?

Can vary: Causes are several, but if your Dad used alcohol to excess, this could result in a similar atrophic pattern.  Generically, might consider a medicine to assist his memory, focus, etc like donepezil, Exelon, (rivastigmine) Namenda, but would also want to supplement B vitamins, especially thiamine.  Also, best to discuss further with his doctor.

See another cause: Men in their twenties may have mild cerebral atrophy from alcohol abuse, schizophrenia, birth injury, some other cause, or an overread by a radiologist. None of these will stop him from walking. Look for another explanation.

Depends: The answer to your question should come from the doctor who ordered the CT scan. He/she would take in consideration the other symptoms your child has and the index of suspicion he/she had he/she overact he test. There must be other tests done too. And if there is still no answer, your daughter would probably be referred to a neurologist

Doubt the diagnosis: The diagnosis of mild cerebral atrophy is doubtful.  This is often based on MRI findings and it tends to have no clinical significance.  There is probably no need for steroid treatment.

It would be a good idea to obtain a second opinion and formal consultation about this matter.

Nope.: Sounds like neurodegenerative state. Unfortunately at this time we have no way of stimulating brain growth once atrophy has set in. Depending on your mother's other comorbidities, she may lose her ability for independent living soon, if she has not lost it already. Seek family and social help for related problems - medical help will only be supportive, not curative. Caring for parents is an honor!

Loss of brain cells: Cerebral atrophy is a loss of brain cells or neurons and their connections.  Some atrophy occurs naturally with aging but more rapid loss is seen with dementia or with a stroke.  The frontal and temporal lobes are especially involved with mood and emotions and less so with motor activity. Cerebral atrophy is a non specific finding and does not explain dizziness.

Old age related: Not usually serious - not reversible - probably due to hypertension- chronic.
