why is there an alcohol warning label on metrogel vaginal? does that much of the drug really get in to your system?

ETOH warning ?:  Metrogel warnings are usually generic as alcohol is a substance which requires caution and limitation of use.  There is no actual interaction of alcohol use and this medication of significance.

Probably coincidence: Metrogel vaginally does not usually cause the irritation However Flagyl orally can give some mouth metal like taste and can cause some stomach irritation With any indigested alcohol more side effects can occur

Metrogel: Depends on how much alcohol do you plan to drink today? 1 beer is likely ok but would not drink more.

3 days: You should wait 3 days after using medications containing metronidazole before drinking alcohol as a portion of it can be absorbed systemically and cause a disulfuram type reaction which would make you feel horrible.

i have unprotected sex while on metrogel-vaginal. what can happen to me? my boyfriend went to the doctor and they say he is ok.

Topical metronidazol: This should have no serious side-effects. Peripheral neuropathy has been described with systemic use of metronidazole, but not with topical applications. Anything can cause allergic reactions, but otherwise there should be no problem, although if you are having unprotected sex you may become pregnant, or if your bf is not monogamous, stds are always possible.

Diagnosis?: Metrogel is prescribed for bacterial vaginosis. Typical symptoms of bacterial vaginosis are vaginal odor and discharge. It does not typically cause vaginal or clitoral burning.

: I would avoid it. The absorption of the medication into the blood of this gel is not as much through vaginal membranes  as it would be if you take it in pill form. However, your body can develop a very nauseating reaction if even a small amount of the med enters your blood.

i need to take metrogel vaginal for an inflammation.  i am currently breastfeeding. is it okay to continue to breastfeed while using this vaginal cream?

According : According to research Metronidazole used vaginally (metro-gel) is unlikely to be of concern while breastfeeding. Obviously this is your decision, but i personally feel it is safe. If i were breastfeeding myself i would use it without question.

Possible: Just finish you treatment course and then if still having discharge two days later, get rechecked.

Not only BV. PID?: BV itself does not cause pelvic pain or cramping, but BV is usually present in women witih pelvic inflammatory disease (PID, fallopian tube infection) and in gonorrhea or chlamydia, all of which can cause cramping. Also, "egg yolk" like discharge is Not typical for BV; any colored discharge often goes along with infections like STDs. Metrogel alone definitely won't help. Insist on doctor, not RN.
