Not directly: It can cause severe lactic acidosis which can lead to respiratory failure, but commonly not lung damage directly.

Possible: Metformin can cause gastrointestinal upset when first starting medication or after increasing dosage.  Should go away within a few days of starting medication.  If this isn't the case, consult your doctor.

Diabetic CP: If you are a diabetic you are at increased risk for a heart attack.  Any chest pain you have should be evaluated by a physician.  Female diabetics especially can have atypical chest pain related to heart disease.  See your primary care physician for evaluation.

Not normal: Is your blood sugar too low now?  Check it when you have symptoms. Let your doctor know you are having these symptoms.

i am having stomach issues daily and for the last couple days,  worse today,  i have pressure discomfort across my chest into my arm pits.  sometimes, i have some low pressure type pain in my chest?

Time to see a doctor: Chest pressure, chest pain, or trouble breathing in an older adult are signs to go to the ER. Chest pain can be a heart attack. One should not drive herself (it's safer to go by ambulance). If she turns out not to have heart attack symptoms, the ER will also have evaluated for problems such as reflux, esophageal spasm, myocarditis, pneumonia, etc...  X-rays, EKG, and labs can be done at the ER.

Lipitor (atorvastatin) doesn't: cause palpitations, high BP or palpitations. Metformin decreases blood sugar, low blood sugar can cause all kinds of symptoms, including high BP and palps. GERD doesn't cause these. Let your doc know. He/She might do a holter monitor to check your heart rhythm, and check your BP. Good Luck.

See doctor: Taking a higher dose of metformin can contribute to GI side effects such as diarrhea, stomach upset, but you should not have chest pain, feel weak, or cold.  Chest pain always needs evaluation, especially when you have diabetes.  Please see your doctor asap.
