i've been talking norethindrone for regularity and i started coughing up mucus and blood. so i'm wondering if it's because i take meclizine and if there are any good medications to take for regularity at that time and would like to get back on my med?

Take Plan B: Micronor (norethindrone) is most effective if you are also breast-feeding.  If you are missing pills (and not taking them at around the same time every day) your chances of pregnancy are increased and its recommended that you use a back-up method such as condoms to prevent pregnancy.   Taking 2 pills in one day will work if you only missed one pill the day before but if you have missed more than that it may not.

A "mini-pill": This is one of the Progesterone only birth control pills known as "mini-pills."  they are birth control pills minus the estrogen and are perfectly fine as birth control but are very prone to irregular bleeding.  I only use them for postpartum women who are breast feeding.

Sometimes: Femara (letrozole) is an aromatase inhibitor that prevents endo from producing its own estrogen. It will only work for endo in women who have been castrated. Norethindrone is a synthetic progestin that suppresses endo. Both can give some pain relief, and Norethindrone usually has much fewer side effects. The ais cause severe menopausal symptoms and most young women can't tolerate them.

Brkthrgh bleed: Yes, absolutely you can. The hormone based contraceptives work by suppressing the hormonal pathway between the brain and your reproductive organs. Thus, if you skip few doses then that suppression will no longer take place and eventually lead to breakthrough bleeding or resumption of your periods. if this continues to be an issue, you should talk with your primary care provider to discuss further.

Yes: Aygestin (norethindrone) is a mini-pill, meaning it has a single ingredient compared with combination-pills that have 2 ingredients. Mini-pills need to be taken at the same time each day to prevent pregnancy. After the pill is stopped, pregnancy can happen... which is why condoms are wonderful to have around. A home urine pregnancy test is very accurate 3 weeks after sex if a normal menstrual period doesn't come.

OCP efficacy : As with all oral contraceptives (especially Progesterone only pills) it is important to take the pills at consistent time each day. If you have been taking them consistently since your last period it does not matter what time of day you take it or when you have sex, for that matter. More important is the consistent daily use.
