and may be given Provera (medroxyprogesterone) to have withdrawal bleeding.

Not necessarily: Has your body composition changed since before you started birth control pills?  If you are at extremes of weight (obese or extra thin), you can miss periods.  Your thyroid could also be to blame.  You could consider seeing a health care provider to have some tests run.  If you're unsure about your weight and health, consider calculating your bmi with  an on-line calculator.

i was prescribed birth control patch and it is my first time with contraceptive. do i absolutely have to start it during my menstrual or can i take it anytime? if so, when will it be effective?

: This is the usual practice since menses indicates you are not pregnant at the start. (exposing a fetus to the drug) Many OBGYNS will encourage you to use a backup BC for the 1st few weeks or month to be sure your body adapts to the BC. Effectiveness is then at whatever level possible with the patch.

No period is OK: Women with no period for an unknown reason is a problem and needs investigation.  There is no reason that women on 'the pill' must have a period every month.  If you use the pill continously, not allowing menses, 'breakthrough' bleeding may occur.  If the bleeding is significant, stop the pill for a few days, allow your period, then resume.  Over time, you might get lucky and suppress all bleeding.

i am experiencing  no menstrual periods. we are trying to have a baby and i have been off of birth control for 6+ months. what should i do?

Could be normal: It can take up to a year after going off birth control pills before menses resume.  If menses were irregular prior to going on the pill or there are other medical issues such as diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity etc, then an obgyn should be consulted immediately, otherwise it would be ok to wait a few more months.  Make sure to take prenatal vitamin daily

Time for exam, tests: In cases of amenorrhea or oligomenorrhea that have not been fully evaluated or treated, some primary care or gyn doctors will perform additional tests and occasionally refer patients to specialists in reproductive endocrinology. Those are doctors who are also experts in fertility.
