It often causes more pain and difficulty in the inner part of the knee than the meniscus tear itself. You can improve the situation by strengthening the quad muscles. Exercises like straight leg raises, stationary bicycle, and slow stair-walking will not harm the meniscus and can relieve symptoms.

Soon: A well performed arthroscopy with partial medial meniscectomy does not damage anything and merely removes a painful mechanical tear. As soon as the knee calms down and overall strength has returned, return to sports is safe. This can be anywhere from 3 weeks to 3 months, depending on the person. It can be very quick, but variable depending on situation.
