i just started taking meloxicam 15 mg.  when is the best time to take it?

Timing: Take it at the same time everyday. I would recommend breakfast becasue you should take it with food.

DO  NOT COMBINE: I do not feel you should use two NSAID's together. If the Mobic (meloxicam) isn't working, discontinue that one before you start a second. NSAID's are not harmless drugs.

NSAIDs: These are non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicines and work very well to help with common problems caused by inflammation - arthritis, for example.  All anti-inflammatories (including over the counter nsaids) have the risk of putting a litte extra strain on the heart.  Although some of these medicatins (vioxx, bextra) were removed from the market, overall most doctors agree these are very safe.

Similar: In clinical trials they all have similar results.  However, in my experience different people do better on different meds.  For example, some people tell me the Mobic (meloxicam) works better, but others say Celebrex is gentler on their stomach.  You may have to try a few and see which works best for you.

Even odds: These are all members of the NSAID family. They all have about the same potential for side effects such as stomach irritation or possibly some salt and water retention ( edema). There are some small studies that suggest that diclofenac might have slightly better analgesic effect but they all have fairly equivalent anti-inflammation properties.

which anti inflammatory is best for immediate pain relief that lasts...ibuprofen 800mg or meloxicam 15mg?

Depends but meloxica: meloxicam takes about 4-5 hours to reach a max in your body.  Ibuprofen takes about 2-4 hours.  But meloxicam stays in your system long about 15-20hrs.  Ibuprofen stays in your system for about 2-4 hours for the first dose.  I like naproxen it takes about 60 min for peak effect and lasts about 12-17 hrs. But don't take any of these if you are pregnant

have oa pain at night & cervical spondylosis. taking mobic, (meloxicam) 10mg flexeril & melatonin. how close to bedtime should i take melatonin for best results?

There is no best : Timing but to allow for passing of GI tract, 30 to 45 minutes, .

8 weeks post tkr and still have pain when walking. hard for me to get out and walk in icy wi but doing my best. i was given meloxicam but i'm afraid to take it. i'm overweight and afraid of heart attack warnings. is all this normal at 8 weeks?

Yes.: The pain could be there for few weeks  to 1 or 2 months.
