No: Dermographism is one of the physical urticarias.  The etiology is not really known and treatment is symptomatic-antihistamines to decrease the itch scratch cycle that leads to the hives, and rubbing gently rather than scratching when skin itches.

Nobody knows.: Dermatographism is a form of hives (urticaria). The hives develop in response to rubbing or scratching the skin, which releases histamine, which in turn causes the hives. Why some people get this response to physical rubbing of their skin is not known yet.

Dermatographia: Is an allergic reaction to scratching.  Try antihistamines.  If that doesn't work, a dermatologist can prescribe steroid cream or pills.  It is treatable, if not curable.  It depends how much it bothers you when you opt for any of these treatments.  Go see a dermatologist.

Won't happen: If anyone offers you a "cure", put your hand over your wallet. Antihistamines can be worse than the dermatographism itself. Omalizumab can control urticaria but won't cure this. Here's the truth -- most infections, surgical diseases, chemo-sensitive cancers, and a few counselling / situational problems can be "cured". Everything else in medicine is about managing stuff. No : It is a normal response in 5% of patients. Antihistamines are the treatment.  Sometimes women can have thyroid disease associated with it.

Suffers may need to stay on antihistamines for many years to avoid symptoms.

Dematographia: Not usually though though you may have some symptoms at the momentit is occurring. A painful dermtographia may represent a vasculitis or something else.

Antihistamine: It is individual reactive process with noo underlying allergy. Non sedating antihistamines such as surged and Allegra (fexofenadine) can help. Natural options include stinging nettle by mouth.In severe cases antihistamine can be combined with tagamet, a u2 antagonist.

Dermatographism: Avoid very hot baths, which seem to sensitize the skin. Common antihistamines - avoid those that make you drowsy- can help. Some sufferers sought acupuncture therapy successfully. Anecdotally, small amounts of alcohol ingestion on a daily basis have helped some sufferers.
