Residual schizophrenia is a subtype of schizophrenia characterized by an absence of active criterion a symptoms (eg delusions, hallucinations, and/or disorganized speech/behavior) in the setting of ongoing (attenuated) schizophrenia-related role impairment.

Same: If you still have residual symptoms following an initial response to treatment, you may need an adjustment of your medication(s), may have co occurring conditions that have not been addressed yet or may need other therapeutic interventions in addition to what you are being treated with. Depends: Some antipsychotic medications are better than others.  Some can cause metabolic syndome (i.E diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol) , obesity, pancreatitis and low white blood cells. More research is needed.  You must also consider other factors of a schizophrenia patient which negatively affects their life span including smoking, poor diet and substance abuse.

Quite a few.: There are many anti-psychotic medications combined  with antidepressants that can help you. You should take vitamins and minerals as a dietary supplement with a healthy diet and regular exercise. Psychotherapy with your medications is also very beneficial.

Schizophrenia: Please don't stop medication abruptly as you may experience side effects. Also ask your doctor for a recommendation to a psychotherapist who is veteran in treating your disorder. Try to not give up as many with your disorder have been helped when in the right hands for treatment. Best.

Different ones: Antipsychotic medications are used to treat the hallucinations and delusions associated with schizophrenia. There are 20 different ones. Treatment for schizophrenia is best provided by a board certified psychiatrist. Antipsychotic medications require careful monitoring, especially as schizophrenia is a chronic condition. I like Invega sustenna (paliperidone palmitate) which is an injection that lasts one month.
