Treating the fever does nothing for the underlying illness which would need to be evaluated by a doctor.

If the cough is keeping the baby from nursing from mom or bottle or from sleeping the baby should be seen by a doctor. Otherwise it probably picked up a little virus and is ok. If you are at all worried about a baby under 2 months of age it should by all means be seen.  A fever  is 100.4 rectally in a baby.
