Safe Medication: Aldara (imiquimod) does not have any black box warnings or major complications associated with it.  As it is a skin based treatment, most of its side effects (and expected effects) are skin irritation.
Since it is an immune therapy, you should expect the warts to become inflamed as your body attacks them.
There have not been any reports of death from topical application of aldara (imiquimod).

: Warts or HPV never cause inflammation (irritation, itching, discharge, etc). Yeast is far more likely. If your symptoms continue despite yeast treatment, seen your doctor for further in-person evaluation.

Not yet: We do not yet have an antiviral medication to neutralize HPV viruses or to block their replication. Thus, the best one can do is get periodic check-ups and  follow-up with any important findings. Of course, people should be vaccinated with Gardasil-9 or any other HPV vaccine with 9 or more serotypes of protection. Also, have very few partners, and preferably vaccinated partners.

: Usually they clear up before a year. But why not see a doctor to a) confirm the diagnosis and b) get them treated?

: There has been little or no research to answer the first question. And yes, not all genital bumps are warts. And some experts believe that wart tissue might be replaced by scar tissue. In that case, the bump may remain but it's no longer an active wart. It't best to have them treated, which usually is effective in getting rid of warts entirely.
