Change your diet and: Fluids. Eat a high fiber diet between 20-25 grams per day, regular meal times and drink 80-100 oz of caffeine free alcohol free fluids daily. If you exercise and should add 20 oz per 30 minutes of strenuous exercise. Some meds contribute to constipation so take the meds with full glass of fluid instead of a sip in addition to the above recommended fluids.

Complex...?Yes? & No: Most people focus on inanimate stuff as powerful; missing reality of the power within us as embodied souls built from dust (biblical ref.), molecules (modern terms). Constipation is a behavior: stool firmer (less water) due to staying in colon longer (colon absorbs water back to blood stream), dehydration, stalling going. Lots of issues, depending on how we react, powerfully change our behavior(s).

These are important factors in any discussion. Without more data you can just try anything or go buy an enema. In the long term avoid constipating foods.

: While I use this in infants for constipation, I don't suggest it for adults. Kids don't absorb the majority of the complex sugars, so it works to draw along water.  Adults absorb the sugars, so it is less a benefit &amp; is stored as carbs or fat. Metamucil in its brand or generic form is a better adult/older kid agent. Directions are on the product.

Prune juice : Dietary modification, water, prune juice and otc suppository are usually effective remedies for treatment of constipation is toddlers. Persistent constipation in this age group can be due to serious underlying conditions which the pediatrician should be made aware of.

Prune juice: Is an easy place to start. Medications may be too intense at this age, but prune & apple juice can both be helpful. Discuss the problem with you pediatrician at his next checkup, he may need to look into the problem.

Constipation: Many choices,  I would suggest Miralax, (polyethylene glycol) known for effectiveness and safety.  If no luck, use ducolax.

Accepted Answer

No:  I dont know of any medications that treat both UC and constipation at the same time. Constipation is so common that it is not surprising that you have this on top of UC. Generally I will start with a very mild stool softener for 4-6 weeks to see how that helps. Usually this is so mild it comes with few to no side effects.
