Unsure : Hi Ellis, Actually I have never encountered a patient with a GI bleed from risperidone. There are a lot of medications that you can use for bipolar disorder but since you are sensitive to these Meds, you will need to work closely with your doctor to find one that works best without side effects. Med Regimen: Bipolar disorder may not be curable but there are excellent medications available to treat the condition.  Regarding your medications, you and your doctor will need to work as a team to see how you respond to your medications. This will dictate when medications are titrated, started or stopped.  Although the medications you take may change over time, it isn't advisable to stop use of all meds.

That's a shame: You need to try and find either a board certified addiction psychiatrist or a board certified psychiatrist who is also board certified in addictionology (like me). I think that drugs of abuse most certainly makes bipolar d/o worse and those with bipolar d/o suffer from a greater risk of substance abuse and dependency. I treat both at the same time in my clinic. You should be able to find someone.

Not One Combination: There really isn't one "usual" combination. In my experience there are some indicators that can guide selecting medications based on the nature of your cycles (how do you go from energized to depressed, which direction is the switch faster, etcetera), but there is also quite a lot of variability in responses.

Bipolar illness: Unfortunately there are no "traditional" treatment modalities for bipoloar disorder that have been proven to be effective. If you have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, the only two types of treatments that have been shown to be effective include medications and psychotherapy.
