Local anesthetic: For joint fluid, a needle is placed into the joint. Depnding on which joint and the technique used, the may choose to use local anesthetic, or in some cases, topical anesthestics, to decrease pain.  But local anesthetic requires an injection also.

However, drugs especially opiate(pain) analgesics are rarely warranted.Treatment may include bracing, physical therapy, injections, exercise, anti-inflammatory drugs and surgery.

Depends: On what you mean by "joints maintence drugs" many otc fda non regulated preparations have been purported to have positive effects on osteo or rheumatoid arthritis by the multibillion dollar suppliment industry. Most do not work, and are a total waste of money. If you are referring to rx. Nsaia, ie prescription antiimflammatants, then the answer is yes. These drugs have been shown to be effective.

Not joint per se: Fibromyalgia does not directly affect joint, but not uncommon to encounter early morning stiffness after awakening.  Do not know what medicine you are taking, but analgesics, nsaids, antidepressants do not work well.  Better are fda approved lyrica, cymbalta, savella (milnacipran).

You can try...: Joint pain in 20yr olds is unusual so a work up for rheumatologic conditions is indicated.If this has already been done and is ' negative' and the joints affected are " weight bearing"( hip, knee, ankle, lower back) and you are overweight than weight loss can be very helpful.If not i would consider seeing a board certified orthopedic surgeon.Most will give u the 'straight scoop' ... Glucosamine: It is not really an herbal medicine but glucosamine may help. Take 1, 500 mg daily and you have to give it a 3 month trial before deciding if it is effective enough.
