Need Rx if new: If a new infection with severe symptoms (multiple sores, sore throat, swollen nodes, etc), you need Rx ASAP with an anti-herpes drug like valacyclovir. If recurrent cold sores, it's too late; they'll heal soon. You can transmit to a partner by kissing or oral sex, if s/he hasn't previously had the same herpes type (probably HSV1). Transmission risk highest during outbreak, low risk at other times.

Yes: If someone has an active lesion (despite medication) transfer could be possible if the lips touch the same area on the glass.

: Antiviral medication such as Valacyclovir reduces the risk of herpes transmission but not 100% effective.

: Treatment to prevent outbreaks is mostly for genital HSV2 infection but probably works for oral herpes (usually HSV1). Is it certain your outbreaks are recurrent herpes? Oral herpes usually recurs once a year or less. If confirmed, ask your doctor about daily oral valacyclovir or acyclovir. Also avoid known triggers; outbreaks can be triggered by sun exposure, for example. Good luck.

No risk, stop asking: The same question was answered a day or two ago. Repeated asking won't change the answer. In longstanding herpes, the virus is almost never transmitted to a new body area. See your doctor about your symptoms.

Not from your kiss: A person who already has HSV 1 in their system may get a cold sore, but it will not be from your kiss.

my girlfriend kissed me on the lips, french kiss ,and two weeks later, ulcers appeared on my lips. knowing that we tested for all stds the day before the kiss including rpr and hiv/p24. do i need to take any test? i have had oral herpes since child?

: By far the main cause of mouth or lip ulcers is herpes; this might just be a worse than usual recurrence of your longstanding infection. Two weeks is too long for symptoms of a new HSV infection, and anyway you are immune to a new infection with HSV type 1. To confirm the likely diagnosis,have an HSV PCR test from the ulcers ASAP -- within 2-3 days of onset, if possible. Good luck.

Maybe: Herpes is a virus transmitted by contact.  Oral sex could cause genital herpes to spread to the mouth or from the mouth to the genitals.  This is not the only way to get oral herpes however...
