Probably: Don't know what a UK unit of alcohol is, but in general having more than 2 drinks a day is not good for health. On the other hand, having up to 2 drinks (2 -3 oz of 100 proof) per day may have some health benefits with some exceptions.

Binging.: Drinking any more than 2 drinks at a sitting is considered binging, and can do damage in the long run. While 1-2 servings (a serving is 4 oz. wine or 12 oz. beer or 0.5 oz. hard liquor = 0.4 oz alcohol) daily is modestly protective, binging (drinking more than 2 drinks at a time) has never been shown to be beneficial, and is probably harmful. Unclear question: Heal from what?  You ought to cut out drinking entirely.
Alcohol is a poison that never did anybody any good, ever, so stay away from it.
Wish you good health! - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex, if you have sex.

MUCH worse: drinking more than 4 drinks on one occasion (3 for women and men over 60) constitutes binge drinking, and is statistically associated with the development of alcohol abuse and all its problems.  It is also FAR more damaging to various organs (brain, nervous system, liver, pancreas, stomach etc etc) than drinking 1-2 drinks per day. Seek counseling if you cannot curtail your drinking/stop binges.

No, but other harm:: Exceeding 3-4 units daily can lead to liver disease. 1 unit=10 ml of pure alcohol  = 25 ml of 40% whisky = 8 oz  of beer( 0.4 pints uk).  So it's not likely that you would damage your liver BUT it's more than likely that you will become intoxicated, suffer poor judgement and accidents, and hurt your relationship with significant others if they are around you. Yes and sooner: Typically, a hangover will end within 24 hours. Hangovers begin within several hours after you stop drinking, when blood alcohol concentration (BAC) falls. Symptoms of a hangover usually peak about the time BAC is zero and may continue for up to 24 hours thereafter.

i have read that duration of smoking is a larger risk factor for cancer than amount per day...  for alcohol consumption what would be a larger risk factor.  amount per day or times per week?  ie. daily 1 or 2 drinks vs 6 one day per week?  thank you?

: Alcohol is a poison that never did anybody any good, ever, so stay away from it. It will destroy your brain cells, damage testicular cells that make testosterone, facilitate development of cancer in many organs, cause hepatitis, cirrhosis and pancreatitis etc. There is no safe level of alcohol intake. Quit while you are ahead.
