Not likely: Zyrtec (cetirizine) is a new generation with a good safety profile.  While the usual dose of zyrtec is 10 mg once a day for allergies, there is scientific evidence that higher doses even up to 4x the usual dose is helpful for severe hives.  So, two doses of zyrtec is unlikely to cause significant side effects except perhaps a little drowsy.

can i take my second dose of zyrtec (cetirizine) d in 8 hours if i need it, opposed to the recommended 12 hours? took it at 10am would like to take it now 7:30pm

Yes: Turns out that twice daily Zyrtec D (5mg cetirizine + 120mg pseudoephedrine) has half the cetirizine (10mg) as plain Zyrtec which is dosed once daily. So we know it's not a cetirizine issue. Most likely it's b/c you don't want too much pseudoephedrine in your sytem at any time or else you might feel jittery &amp; wired. Let's put it this way, you're probably safe at 8hrs but if you notice side effects

YES: however the use of both products should not exceed the doses you are using and you may have increased sedation.

No: Both mucinex sinus max and zyrtec d contain pseudoephedrine.  Avoid taking the two together.

Not a good idea: Nyquil has an antihistamine, cough suppressant and acetaminophen. You are already taking Cetirizine (zyrttec), so why mix medications? Why not take a whole Cetirizine to begin with? Do you really need the other ingredients?

my body acts weird. everytime i use zyrtec (cetirizine)  drops i get very little drowsy only on the first dose. my tolerance goes away if i stop it for long. why?

Expected: That's true with most sedating antihistamines.  One does get used to the drowsiness after a couple of weeks. Whether this is due to a faster breakdown of the drug by the liver or reconditioning of the brain- no one knows   However it is believed that some impairment in performance does happen when measured by performance tools  even though you may not be feeling it.

Do not increase : A 17 month old should not have allergies to inhaled items like dust or pollen.  Zyrtec (cetirizine) could cause drowsiness and i would avoid long term use of zyrtec (cetirizine) in your child.  If your child has a runny or stuffy nose that is unresponsive to zyrtec (cetirizine) then see your doctor to make sure there isn't an infection brewing.

zyrtec (cetirizine) works best for me but also is very sedating for the next 24 hrs. can i split the pill and take a lower dose (5 mg) or even 2.5 mg children's dose? would those doses be less sedating?

Yes: But at your age it probably won't work very well either!
