Probably fine: 5000 iu of vitamin d is likely fine, especially in winter.  Ask your physician to check your 25-oh vit d level to see where you stand, and what you need.  Most people need 2000-5000iu in winter.

Maybe: This dose is well above what you'd need to prevent the deficiency in this vitamin that is so common nowadays, but is not outrageously high. Kidney stones are a hazard in extreme vitamin d oversupplementation but this dose is considered safe. You'd do well to take a look at all your risk factors -- genetic tendency to absorb calcium, fluid intake, composition of any stones you passed.

took 3000 iu vitamin d3 daily for a week, i recently had cheekbone implants made of rib cartilage. read that high d3 can cause bone loss. will taking that dose have resorbed some of the implants?

No.: The amount and duration of vitamin D you've taken isn't enough to cause any long term, much less immediate, problems.  Vitamin D toxicity can raise serum calcium levels primarily by resorbing bone.  But cartilage is a non-bony fibrous tissue which isn't directly affected by vitamin D metabolism.  While taking 3000 IU D3 supplement shouldn't cause you harm, there's no real benefit either.

Vitamin D: Most women do not need that much vitamin D on a daily basis but if your obstetrician has uncovered very low levels follow that advice. Otherwise go to a store and purchase bottles of either 1000 or 2000 units. Usually you do not need an expensive vitamin D test.
