Mastoidectomy scar: You should not be experiencing frank pain at the site of your mastoidectomy incision. The scar may feel a bit tight or uncomfortable, as the scar initially contracts and then stretches out during the healing and wound remodeling process.
Make sure to have the area checked by your ear surgeon.

Complicated.: Need very detailed postop instructions. Your ENT surgeon should provide very detailed written postop instructions.

Absolutely not: These are two separate problems and are not related.  Mastoidectomy today is usually performed for CHRONIC  ear infection.  This is not related to tonsillitis.  Tonsillectomy is indicated for 3 reasons. 1.) 
Recurrent acute tonsillitis at least 3-4 times a year, 2.)  Obstruction of upper airway leading to a sleep disorder secondary to enlarged tonsils. and 3.) Fetid odor due to retained food.

Unlikely: Mastoidectomies are one of the surgical procedures to rid one of a cholesteatoma and they certainly don't cause them. Cholesteatomas have a reputation for being hard to eradicate, so most likely the operation simply failed to get it all out.  See your ENT surgeon.

Any: Ent doctors who have special training in the ear are called otologists. Some older ENT doctors who trained before specialty boards concentrated their practices on the ear and have a huge experience in performing mastoidectomies. The key for you is to find a doctor who does a lot of ear surgery. The more procedures he or she does the better they are at it generally.

Elective surgery: Elective surgery means that the surgery can be scheduled at the convenience of the patient.  The other kinds of surgery are emergent--gotta get it done right now; urgent--must be done soon, but not right this second; and elective--can be scheduled.  Mastoidectomy is typically not done in emergent or urgent circumstances.   It needs to be done, but if you wait a week or two or more, it's okay.
