i had simple mastectomy 4 days ago & no drain was placed.the area seems now to be filled with fluid.  i can hear the liquid when i move. what to do?

Get seen now: This sounds like a seroma. Placing a drain is not always a good idea -- it's a two-way passage that can let bacteria into an area. Your surgeon will want to know. Best wishes.

Not abnormal: After laying flat on their back for several hours under anesthesia, many people have back soreness set in after a day or two. Ask your doc what she could take for it.

how would i get more comfort with drains after double masectomy?

Tough one: Make sure dressing around drains on well so they  don't tug.  Fold a 4x4 gauze in half put under the drain close to where it coming out from the skin and do the same above the drain. And place tape to hold in place, should help.

Simple or total mast-x is identical except no lymph nodes are removed.  Selected patients may be treated without skin removal (nipple and/or areolar sparing mast-x; sub-q mast-x)

Maintainyour figure: If you mean mast. Bra and external prothesis -it is to maintain your figure after mastectomy  they also make partial implants for filling out partial mastectomy voids ...... Downside  hot, itchy in the summer-colder than you in the winter  and expensive  needing to be changed yearly but most insurance companies pay for them.

No: It is a technically simple procedure with low morbidity.  Most patients can and choose to go home the same day of surgery.

An OPTION for some : No one needs a prophylactic mastectomy. However, those with a proven brca mutation have a 50-75% chance of developing breast cancer in their lifetime & may find a mastectomy their best option rather than fearing its development. New reconstructive options make this less traumatic but it's still a major decision, best done w/a cancer surgeon and genetic counselor.
