can i still wear mascara with blepharitis?

Accepted Answer

Not advisable: Blepharitis involves inflammation of the eyelids and generally leads to blocked eyelid  glands. Depending on the severity, mascara can make it worse. Generally my recommendation is to wear mascara for special events and to remove it as soon as you are home. Warm compresses and lid scrubs with dilute baby shampoo as maintenance therapy twice a day will help. Good luck.

Accepted Answer

I say no: Try to use as little as possible on your eyelids to reduce inflammation.  Once the swelling is gone for a week or so you can try it.  But remember your eyelids could be swollen for a reason.  If you have fever or vision loss see a eye doctor.

Blepharitis: Makeup including mascara can worsen underlying blepharitis in some patients.  You can try starting the new mascara and then discontinue it if your lid disease flares.

No connection: There is no medical connection between mascara and headaches.  But if you feel that there is one, then why not stop the mascara for several days and see if the headaches disappear?   That is called a clinical trial.  You might also consider changing the brand of mascara.

Blepharitis: The blepharitis  can be bacterial, viral or allergic and if appropriately treated you should be able to resume non-allergic make up.

Accepted Answer

Stop using it: When you are allergic to something the best treatment is to avoid it. You can apply some steroid cream such as Hydrocortisone for rash.

Accepted Answer

Yes: Most are very safe to be used daily.  If you have recurrent styes or a viral infection then hold off until cleared by your doctor.

Accepted Answer

No.: Eyelash loss may be a sign of infection.  Most commonly blepharitis.  Good hygiene with lid scrubs with help.  You may need antibiotics if severe.   You should see an ophthalmologist for the correct diagnosis.

Accepted Answer

Doubt it: would  not recommend this approach.

i had cateract surgery when can i wear mascara and lift some weights it's been a week and a half?

Accepted Answer

Depends: If the surgery was uncomplicated most surgeons allow makeup after 1 week. Activities such as light weights and running are generally acceptable after the first week. Always check with your surgeon of course.
