See a DR: Heart palpitations at any time are worth seeing a DR for. There are a variety of tests that can rule out heart problems esp arrythmias. These include a baseline EKG, holter monitor, and blood tests.

The only exception would be foods or drinks with high levels of caffeine, which can cause palpitations or fast heart rates. Thus, one's primary care doctor can evaluate to find out what the palpitations are, and what might be leading to them.

Things such as an overactive thyroid, caffeine, anxiety, disease of the heart valves, and coronary artery disease are associated with an increased incidence of palpitations but once again most of the time we don't find a specific cause.
