That is not uncommon: Lipping between vertebrae is common as we grow older(&gt;30 years). If you do not have back pain, then there is nothing further that needs to be done. Exercises to make your back muscles stronger will be useful to slow down this so called degenerative arthritis , also called osteoarthritis (if it causes you persistent pain). Keep yourself fit and control your weight(to normal) to avoid back pain.

The speed of these changes depends on the wear and tear/trauma or how much activity we have and are enduring. Reactive endplate changes may be considered some of the earliest changes in osteoarthritis we can get. In my opinion theses are common in people in their 40's and do not mean severe disease is going to occur.
