May need antibiotics: Sorry about your situation. Unfortunately, in your case it seems that a medical evaluation and some tests (urine analysis/culture) might be needed to make a diagnosis and start treatment. If what you have is a UTI then it's fairly easy treatable but you have to see someone.

Frequent urination a: Painful and frequent urination are common symptoms of uti. Fever and blood in the urine can also be a symptoms in severe infection. But UTI is rare in men unless there is an obstruction to urine flow. So this requires careful evaluation.

Hello. : Hello. I don't know if the red spot was located in the area  near the anus. There could be bleeding somewhere along your urinary tract. There may be irritation of the urethra or a structure that is more internal. I suggest you see your physician, who can do a urinalysis. Even if you don't see visable blood in your urine; there is a possibility of microscopic hematuria  (blood noted under the microsope). If you do have blood in urine, your doctor can work this up.  By the way, sometimes even men who are very healthy can get blood in their urine after hard exercise (i.e., like running).

Unlikely: Unless the organism causing your wife's UTI is very rare and unusual this is very improbable.

No: Bladder infections are: urinary burning, pain, hesitancy, incontinence, frequency, urgency, nighttime urination, blood in the urine, and hesitancy to starting your stream. I can't think of a way that any of these could contribute to breathing problems like shortness of breath, asthma, decreased exertional tolerance, or heart trouble causing breathing difficulty.

3. To treat, take Cipro (ciprofloxacin) 500 mg twice daily for 7 days.

UTI symptoms: UTI is not a likely cause. Also, UTIs are rare in healthy men your age. If you have symptoms of urethral infection (discharge, painful urination, etc), an STI is much more likely than UTI. But neither STI nor UTI causes penile numbness as the only symptom.

Water: The best prevention for uti's are increasing your water intake and possibly cranberry pills or cranberry jiuce. In uncomplicated cases, these have been shown to minimze the symptoms and even help treat these "infections". If these fail, then antibiotics will be neccessary. It is also beneficial to void every 4 to 6 hours and not hold the urine for excessive amounts of time.
