Unlikely: It is more likely to be swelling of a lymph node from non-cancerous causes.  There are other possibilities especially depending on the location on the neck.

Causation: Key is having doctor examine area.  Maybe solely a superficial benign cyst that can be readily fixed but best to have it looked at

Unlikely: most lumps in neck are lymph nodes, may be enlarged due to local infections, lymphoma is very rare as compared to local infections. Please see your physician for complete evaluation

You should: take a deep breath and then make an appointment with your doctor.  He/she will give you better advice than the internet.  There are a lot of reasons for lumps on the neck that have nothing to do with a malignancy.

Relax: All young adults have at least one, and usually 2-4, palpable neck nodes. The ones that are lymphoma -- usually Hodgkin's -- are obviously abnormal (size, consistency).

C MD ASAP: Can't tell here. Could be benign, e.g. Lipoma (fatty tumor), sebaceous cyst of skin), or could be cancerous lymph node, lymphoma, abscess, etc. See md asap for diagnosis and rx.

my husband is experiencing  neck lump or bulge. it came on suddenly 1 week prior to a cold in front of voice box. lump is hard and oriented slighty above voicebox in middle of neck.

Likely lymph node: Most likely a lymph node, which is enlarged because of the cold (viral infection). If it persists more than a few weeks, new areas appear, or it enlarges  get it checked out by a doctor. There are more serious diseases which can cause lymph node enlargement.
