When it gets confused and attacks the body it leads to autoimmune diseases. Common symptoms of sle include: fatigue, joint pain, rashes, mouth sores, dry eyes and mouth, and depression. Every sle patient has unique symptoms.

Many. : Lupus is a systemic autoimmune disease.   There are several different types of Lupus and they usually cause many symptoms that other diseases have (nonspecific).   When a patient is suspected of having Lupus or an autoimmune condition,   they get special labs and they usually see a rheumatologist.   medications can stop working and there are other  medications that could improve your symptoms.

Other auto-antibodies can help to confirm the lupus diagnosis. Anti-Smith is highly specific for lupus but not very sensitive. Anti-dsDNA is also highly specific and tends to be seen in lupus with kidney involvement.

Yes: Coping with a  chronic disease is always important. There  may be limitations but the majority of my patients lead a great  life. The treatment needs  to be tailored to the involvement and  needs  of the person with lupus. The person with  lupus needs to take  charge. People with lupus are  normal people who happen to have lupus. This should  be the guideline but personal responsibility is tops.
