An average patient can be expected to live between 4-12 months depending on how many sites of spread(besides the brain) he has and how mnay tumor nodules show up in his Brain scans. Patients with multiple brain metastases do poorly and may have even a shorter survival , sometimes just a few weeks unless his tumors shrink with the treatments offered  to

It varies quite a lo: It depends on the number of metastatic lesions and also if there is disease outside of the brain and also on the response to treatment. Not knowing any of these variables, i would say patients can live from 3 months on the short end to 12 to even 18 months. Occasionally the brain met can be resected surgically which can provide even a longer survival. So i can not be more precise.

Impossible question: No one can answer that. You know as well as i that lung cancer is very serious. That said, there are some cures. Confined and no evidence of spread are very good observations. Good luck to you or the unfortunate one with the disease.

Hard to say/depends.: At this stage of lung cancer, the options are limited as is survival.  If treatment is done , it's usually chemotherapy and radiation and/or surgery after adjuvant chemotherapy.  There are certainly trials out there and i would recommend talking to your doctor before starting any, but the chance for success is likely limited, as the 5 year survival of stage IV is <5%, but it doesn't hurt to try.
