Abscess forming: The skin on buttock is rather thick and abscesses generally take longer for the "head" to come to the skin. Your bf is having an abscess forming and thus should be seen--he may need it lanced and possible treatment with an antibiotic. It is really a pain in the _ _ _ but should be checked out.  Good luck.

Gluteal lump: My best gress is that this is herpes simplex. It usually last a few weeks then clears but may leave a pigmented scar. It does recur however and can be contageous. There is a simple blood test to rule out herpes, which needs to be done and there is treatment to supress the lump and symptoms that may be present. In the meantime, topical ice may he helpful. Also your consort may need to be checked.

my 6 year old son has a lump on his buttock, he can not sit or walk proper. this morning it had a white head, but that popped while he was bathing this afternoon. it is still very firm around the area he is in pain?

Need to examine: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. What you described suggests infection and it may require antibiotic treatment. It would be prudent to see a doctor.

Probably not: Painless lumps are often cysts or lipomas (abnormal fatty growth), sometimes a lymph node (unlikely in that location). If the lump is not bothering you, it is safe to do nothing, as long as nothing changes, like it is getting bigger, painful, or changes in the overlying skin. A surgeon can easily remove cysts or lipomas as an outpatient, if that will give you peace of mind. Very rarely a cancer.

Hard to tell: without a direct inspection.  However it may also be a mole which has been present for some time. If the "pimple" gets larger , check with your doctor.

Hard to guess: Without a physical exam. Could be a thrombosed external hemorrhoid, could be swelling from infection such as abscess or fistula, etc. Needs a physical exam with a doctor.

Small abscess: It may have been a small hair follicle infection that has now expanded after your initial manipulation. A warm compress may draw it out over a day or two but it may expand &amp; need to be drained by your doc.
