over the past couple of months, i have been noticing  a lower lip twitch off and on. what could be causing this?

Myokymia?: Random twitching of an eyelid or another small facial muscle, which happens in normal people, is called myokymia (an involuntary, spontaneous, quivering of a few muscle cell bundles within a muscle). Myokymia starts and stops spontaneously. It can last a few minutes to a few days. One should see a doctor if such symptoms persist, keep recurring, or are combined with any other symptoms.

Possibly: Possibly this could be caused by  a muscle spasm that refers pain into the tooth or area of the tooth, and also could be causing the lip twitching.  The concept of referred pain from muscles was studied extensively by the famous physician dr. Janet travell, so google. If this seems far fetched I have actually seen this happen.  To be best served be sure that this is not really coming from a tooth.

Pressure: You may have a dental infection that is putting pressure on certain nerves of your jaw. Have yourself evaluated locally by a dentist. Allowing this to progress untreated may result in permanent numbness.

Many causes, see MD: Are you worried about having a brain tumor?    Or have you been diagnosed with something?  Talk to your doctor about your symptoms.  There are several things that can cause your symptoms that are not related to brain rumors . Some of these include trauma, vitamin deficiency, allergies, biting tongue, hormonal changes, ms, and nerve disease.  See a doctor. Get checked.

Sometimes a low: Calcium level in blood can cause a positive chvostek's sign, as a result of irritation of facial nerve.  Have your doctor take a look at it.

Hyperventilation?: Hi, it's possible that you are breathing fast without knowing it and that could cause a transient drop in your blood calcium which could cause your numbness and twitching, blowing a paper bag might help. and I don't understand what you mean by not able to write, is that a new thing? Do you feel nervous when you are about to write? You might have Dysgraphia and I suggest that you see a neurologist.

: Possible causes are anxiety &amp; dehydration consider limiting sodas &amp; coffee. Eat a well balanced diet and sleep 7-9 hours. If symptoms become more than sporadic, see your primary care for a possible referral to a neurologist. Your lips are innervated by a large, facial cranial nerve. Keeping a log will help your doctor as well as any history of trauma. Your dentist can do a basic cranial nerve exam

Magnesium: Stress is factor, but try some extra magnesium and  that might help the twitch.
