Probable: A high ferritin can be interpreted as an acute phase reactant or chronic inflammation, but if your iron level is low, this can suggest deficiency.  Having gastric bypass does cause iron absorption issues including others such as calcium.  Routine specific labs are recommended for all bypass patients.  Have your primary take a further look at this whether you would need chronic iron supplements.

Yes, the B12: B12 deficiency  is the most common complication of gastric bypass because the stomach produces intrinsic factor which your body needs to absorb B12. Usually you can count on receiving B12 supplementation for the rest of your life following gastric bypass. Because the problem is the lack of intrinsic factor, oral B12 doesn't always work and you need shots. Not sure what the "sharp zaps" in toes are

Low iron levels: Your clinician needs to review your entire record, history, and complete an examination on you. This is a tricky situation. By your question, you are associating the bypass surgery with the iron deficiency. While you may be correct, there are other causes for iron deficiency, as with a myriad of colon problems (colon cancer, i.e.) that must be considered. Seek help as soon as possible.

had a report of cbd at 13mm w/pain in up adom & low bk. gastric bypass 18 yrs ago& gb removed. is this common and what does it mean?

Normal CBD: After the removal of the GB the CBD increases in size to accommodate for bile storage after the GB is removed. The size of 1.3mm is normal post-chole.    There can be other causes of the pain such as adhesions, gastric ulcer, or gastritis. It would be best to see a PCP or a surgeon.

s/p gastric bypass sugery by you 12/2010. i have a high pth level w/low calcium levels , 4 tests all high, can this be parathroid cysts? scan was ?

You need calcium: Don't know if your surgery hindered your ability to absorb calcium/vitamin d, but it sounds like you are deficient.  Pth hormone acts by increasing calcium levels in the blood, so this appears to be high as a response to your low calcium.  If it were a PTH problem, your calcium levels would be abnormally elevated along with the PTH level.  Also, calcium & vitamin d absorption are related.

Why do you ask?: With a serum ferritin twice the upper limit of most reference ranges for a young woman, you have hemochromatosis / iron overload until proved otherwise. If it's getting advanced, this could explain your thrombocytopenia, though lupus is also in the "diff". You may have both ;/or something else. Your platelets should perhaps be checked for surface antibodies as part of a full workup.

diagnosed me with bile induced gastritis. wants to do a gastric bypass. in my 40's,(5'4", 203), but isn't there a less invasive answer?

Options: Probably theist popular weight loss operation at the moment is a sleeve gastrectomy. Its not really less invasive, but has less potential for long term side effects. There are also some newer endoscopic therapies, but they are not so effective. Ask your doctor if a consultation with a Bariatric surgeon is appropriate. Hope this helps!
