Depends . . .: It's possible to have issues w/enough lh or leydig cells such that testosterone is low yet fsh ; sertoli cells are fine so no fertility issues. However, taking testosterone in any shape or form will essentially render you infertile as it will shut down your fsh and thus sperm production. If you need to boost your t and maintain fertility, consider off-label hcg, Clomiphene or tamoxifen. Good luck!

Labs interpretation: dear Cole, out of all lab results you mentioned , I would recommend to investigate why your bilirubin level is high. It can be a sign of subacute or chronic liver condition. 
All your symptoms are presentation of systemic problem and it may be liver disease as well
In regard of testosterone levels interpretation, usualy it is age dependent and not recommended to check unless males have infertility

my total testosterone is low my free testosterone is low normal and my dht is low. i'm told i'm fine bc my shbg is low. i have low libido, fatigue, anxiety, and no motivation. do you think trt would be beneficial to someone with low shbg?

: Is an endocrinologist advising you? If not, consult one. If you've been advised by one, follow his/her advice. Actually a low sex hormone binding globulin frees up more testosterone for you. Apparently you're not experiencing signs of elevated circulating testosterone levels. I would ask the endocrinologist to explain this.

Confusing area: "normal" values for free and total testosterone are all over the map. Depending on the lab director, t nrml ranges from 175 to 1100.! go figure. It drives patients and doctors crazy when trying to make sense of "low t". The fda considers a t less than 300 with symptoms as treatable.  Free t assays are variable from lab to lab wheras total t is pretty standard. You should always repeat abnormals.

: A diet with onions, garlic, fish, lean beef, chicken, eggs and other proteins. Exercise 3-5 times a week is also very beneficial.

D/w MD: Yes you can but discuss first with your md about pros and cons. Testosterone replacement can increase your blood pressure, can increase your hemoglobin significantly , etc if you take it too much.  So discuss with your pmd first so they can monitor you.

Normal: All numbers are normal. Try sweet potato, tuna, carrots and look up other foods rich in T.  And read up on DHEA
