: It's complicated. In that area.you have abdominal muscles, diaphragm, spleen,base of left lung ,tail of pancreas &amp; colon.Any tenderness? Constipation would cause lower abdominal discomfort. I think you should be evaluated by a physician or gastroenterologist who will order appropriate tests in order to make a differential diagnosis&amp; advise you. Should be checked: A change in bowel habits should be investigated. Could be lactose intolerance, irritable bowel syndrome etc.

i am having horrible rib pain on my left side. it's sensitive to touch & move. it pops whenever i breathe out. have any suggestions?

Costo-chondritis: You may have costo-chondritis.  The ribs come together at the end and join with a cartilage joint. Sometimes this joint is pulled apart or injured.   It pops and is painful.  Treat with anti- inflammatories and or cortisone injections.   Rest is good too.

Yes: It is not uncommon to fracture a rib while coughing. As you were told you have the flu it would be advisable to get X-ray to look for rib fracture and the possibility of pneumonia . Perhaps tamiflu (oseltamivir) would help as well.

my left rib: pain & severe pressure, sticks out further than right. what feels like airpocket pops up in left side&back. hard to breathe/swallow.

Usually needs 911: Such symptoms could be a collapsed lung (pneumothorax) due to an air leak from the inside of the lung through the covering of the lung, out into the space between the lung and the ribs. With trouble breathing, one usually needs to call 911. To treat it, the doctor sometimes inserts a catheter or chest tube between 2 ribs and sucks the leaked air out. The lung then can re-inflate to full size.

i had my right rib pop about a week ago rolling in bed and have been having pains since. upper stomach pain, chest pain, upper back pain, rib pain. does this sound like slipping rib syndrome? have chest pains that also shoot across my chest into back?

: Pain can radiate to the back on the same dermatome if the nerve under the rib is affected with the fracture.

Exam: It is possible to break a rib from coughing.  You can also have several lung problems that can cause similar pain.  It would be best to have an exam done, particularly if the pain is severe and/or you are short of breath.

Yes, but others, too: Yes, pain in the ribs, especially under the ribs, can be from gas. Acid reflux very commonly causes pain just under the sternum. However, any kind of chest pain, if you're not sure or you've never had it before, could be from your heart - in which case, go to the er.
