Yes: Sometimes infants can have an intolerance to the milk protein (and less commonly soy protein) in formula.  It may be helpful to try a hypoallergenic formula such as Alimentum or Nutramigen for a few weeks.

Constipation?: On occasion, stool in the bowel can be palpated in this area (very thin people) and perhaps when constipation is present.  If concerned and/or significant pain develops consult with a physician.

?  Plastic, see doc.: Perhaps What you are seeing is small particles of plastic.  However please see your physician to have it checked out.

No harm: Accidental, transient inhalation of the preservative is not likely to cause any harm.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex.

Constipation is: diagnosed in infants 2 months old &amp; older who have 3 symptoms: firm, dry pebbly stools, no bowel movement for 2-3 days in a formula fed baby &amp; straining/crying  while having a bowel movement or taking &amp;gt; 10 minutes to pass a stool. If these criteria are met &amp; baby is over 2 months, give 1 oz./day of apple or pear juice, 1st diluted to ¼ strength with cooled boiled water, then ½ strength, if needed.

= A Dx of exclusion: When a GI problem is labelled "functional" it means inflammation, infection, & ischemic pathology, as well as motility disorders have been ruled out. Ruled in are conditions that alter how the gut "senses" pain, distension, & the movement of food or residue. The good news then is that there's no bad news, allowing the symptoms you describe to be addressed without concern for missing a bad problem.

i have pancreatic cancer and stay constipated from all the pain meds. i prescribed a liquid stool softener to take twice a day by peg tube. is better ?

Accepted Answer

No pancreatin: proper digestion  of food requires secretion of pancreatic juice which is then activated by bile.  If no surgery, then ducts are blocked and pancreatin by mouth and bile juice or salts delivered by mouth will help digestion.  Stool softeners like Colace also help. Newer mAbs in trial will help open ducts after targeting mutated MUC5ac.

Still Possible: There is a slight risk of becoming pregnant after tubal ligation. This happens to about 5 out of 1, 000 women after 1 year. After a total of 5 years following tubal ligation, about 13 out of 1, 000 women will have become pregnant.

i've been constipated for a few days but my stool is now softer and a bit longer but still sinks to the bottom of the toilet, am i still constipated?

Normal range is...: Normal bowel frequency varies from 3 movements/ day to one movement every 3 to 4 days. Stool consistency, measured by bristol stool scale, varies from normal (4), hard (1-3), soft (5-7).Have ibs, colitis, infection been ruled out. Dietary fiber supplement may increase bulk and frequency. Bleeding, incontinence, pain needs evaluation right away.

i'm 36. lately stool looks different every day... no blood but some days it's smaller, shorter, thinner and other days longer or thicker. sometimes feel like i didn't empty out fully. happens usually when i'm going through anxiety. causes?

: Stool shape and color often has to do with dietary intake. Different substances in the diet will cause stool alterations-including color and shape/size. If you continue to feel like you are not emptying, you should see a GI doctor to get an evaluation to be certain this is not an issue. If it is due to constipation, after a complete evaluation, a treatment can be pursued. You may need colonoscopy.
