Unknown: It's hard to say what the first period after a miscarriage will be like. It's possible that it'll be heavier; it's possible that it'll be lighter. But what's more important is that you have one and it can take two months for one to come.

Yes: The first period after a miscarriage can be heavy.  if you are going through more than a pad every 2 hours or are feeling lightheaded or dizzy, call your doctor.

: Not normal to have a period for 13 days. You should see your doctor and develop a plan to treat this. You may still be going through hormonal adjustments post the miscarriage but it needs to be attended to.

Miscarriage ?: There can be retained parts of the pregnancy that can be passed later as you imply.  Sometimes this can occur after the bleeding from the miscarriage has been over for some time.  If there was blood with the tissue and it continues it might be an indication of the need for a D &amp; C to make sure all the pregnancy parts are out of the uterus.

Tricky: certainly the amount of bleeding is an issue. Even if it IS normal, the loss of blood adds up and can be quite dangerous.
and if there are clots. it isn't normal

i have miscarried on october 2013. i had a d& c the 17th of oct. recieved my first period nov. 23rd . now 12-29 & no period neg p test. could i be pg?

Possibly.: Assuming your period on nov 23rd was a real period and that your periods are regular (sometimes they're not after a pregnancy loss), you'd expect a period in december but you haven't had one...If you had unprotected sex, it's always safe to assume the possibility and i would get tested. Were you trying for pregnancy? If not and not pregnant, consider contraception. Get on a prenatal vitamin btw!

1st period : The first periods after a miscarriage is often a little off. Sometimes it is early and sometimes late. Sometimes heavier and sometimes lighter. I ask my patients to be patient and give your body a couple of cycles to get back to normal.
