Constipation: For how long? Do you drink about 2.5 liters of fluids a day and eat fiber like 1 cup of oats lentils. brown rice or barley a day? Other high fiber foods include strawberries, kale. Though a BM 3 x a week  is adequate though not ideal, the diarrhea associated with prune juice suggests a food intolerance which could lead to other  nutritional deficiencies. As for how much you should take, I'd start with 4-6 ounces and adjust upward or downward to an amount that keeps the sluices comfortably open. You may want to keep a rough tally of your consumption because prune juice is a food and does add calories to your diet.

Prune juice: Regularity naturally involves doing what works for you. Lots of fresh leafy vegetables, and fruits with skins on (apple a day) and dried fruits like prunes and apricots work quite well. Increasing fiber (metamucil is one product). Many use MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) as gentle and reliable. Prune juice alone can wortk for some. Cruciferous veggies (cauliflowerm broccoli, cabbage) may be gassy. Good luck.

Additional measures: People with severe constipation, adter adequate daily fiber and fluid intake, may need to add a daily stool softener or two. If this doesn't help, the next step can be the addition of a stool loosener such as miralax (polyethylene glycol). Follow the directions.Generics are fine.

Constipation : Constipation is a common problem. Is he only straining or are his stools hard? Babies may not have adequate abdominal musculature to push. Pull his knees to his chest and stimulate his rectum with a thermometer. Try pear juice which you can mix with water if you like. Give him a variety of fruits (esp fruits with pits) and vegetables. Cut down on his cereal/starches. Change of formula can help.

Try drinking water: At your age, I would reccommend 6-8 glasses of water first along with fiber and exercise. If problem persists, see a GI doctor.
