i would like to know the accuracy of detecting lobular breast cancer on ultrasound when having a palpable mass. some studies mention 80 90 %. but is lobular that hard to detect? how many percent of lobular is missed on an diagnostic ultrasound?

MY OPINION ONLY: The only sure and certain way of determining the cause of a mass in the breast is BIOPSY and (if possible) EXCISIONAL biopsy. This is not true of simple breast CYSTS however the 80-90% accuracy.....or for that matter 90%!!! accuracy I would not want to be in the "other" 5-10%    Again  MY OPINION ONLY....

Fibrocystic change?: Any breast lump or thickening mass of tissue on the breast could be breast-cancer.  You need to be seen in person for an exam and possibly imaging.   You should be seen right away.  One in eight women in the USA get breast-cancer so don't take any chances.  There are other things such as fibrocystic change.   Best wishes!

Possible: Yes, it is possible, if partner is rough. Can damage breast tissue. Ice the area carefully to alleviate swelling and pain. It should get better.

Breast mass: Thorough history & physical exam, then blood work & mammogram, then referral to specialist as needed based on results.

if you felt a mass in the breast for over 4 yrs now should i be worried?

Accepted Answer

Probably stable: Probably stable fibrocystic or fibroglandular changes possible stable cyst. If never examined by a doctor this would be a good idea but very unlikely to be a cancer (though not impossible) at your age. Watch your caffeine intake as possible.

non-palpable breast mass has gone from 8mm in feb. '15 to 1.2 cm in june '15.  what could it be?

Accepted Answer

The specific: imaging features determine the probability of malignancy. However, a 50% diameter increase in 4 months would warrant a biopsy even if the imaging features look benign.  That doesn't mean it is malignant, it just means that it's time to find out what it is.  Presumably it looked benign/probably benign in Feb since no intervention was recommended.

See your doctor: I suggest you see your doctor.  He may suggest a biopsy.

Yes: However, when in doubt, seek a professional examination
