Cold : Cold sores are common and are caused by herpes simplex 1 virus.  It often occurs during periods of other illness, sun burn or stress.  You may try variuos otc preparations for it. 
Your physician also can prescribe antiviral medication to take with the onset of coldsores which seem to help too.  Best wishes.

Maybe. Maybe not.: Herpes recurrences look like a small group of tiny bumps, in a cluster, that break open and then crust over, before healing. One single tiny bump with no other bumps around it is usually not herpes. One's primary care doctor can examine. "painful lump" could indicate  you are having a herpes outbreak although many other possibilities exist. If they are not painful then genital warts is another. A doctor will need to see the area to make a diagnosis
